Prison Fence and Razorwire

It seems that the judge presiding over the federal court for the Southern District of New York, Judge Louis L. Stanton has made one of the most idiotic decisions in the history of the internet. And guess who’s gonna take the flak? That’s right, it’s you.

YouTube Annotation
If you’ve ever watched VH1, you’ve likely seen those shows where there are pop-ups that show while a music video is being played. They usually contain funny or interesting facts about the artist or band. Well, it looks like YouTube would like you to have the opportunity to create your own videos like that, by adding video annotations functionality. This will let you add text bubbles to anywhere you want within the video which can show up at the desired time of your choosing.

If you want to set this up on one of your own videos, just log in to your YouTube account, choose a video and select the “Edit Annotations” button. You’ll be able to select from three different options which are speech bubbles, notes, and highlights. So head on over and make your videos more interesting.

Ask.com Cinco \"do\" Mayo

Ok, so Ask.com didn’t really ruin Cinco de Mayo, but they ruined the spelling of it. On their homepage, they’ve misspelled the Mexican holiday as Cinco do Mayo. Only one letter off but that’s enough to have people like me out there putting up blog posts about it. Maybe Ask.com should do this all the time, that way they can get more traffic. Really though, something on the home page of a search engine should be spell checked much more closely.

Earth Day Youtube Logo

I figured that Earth Day would have received much more acknowledgment around the web, but not so much from the big search engines. Read the rest of this entry »

New Adsense Feature

I don’t know when this update has taken place, but I just noticed it on one of my sites. If you take a look at the Google Adsense code on the right of the page on Getmo Games, you’ll notice next to the “Ads by Google” line, there are now two little arrow buttons. If you click them, you’re served a new set of ads. This is a very interesting idea. This will probably increase the click-through rates once users know it’s there. If they don’t see something they like, they can check out different ads. Great idea.

Network Solutions Logo

One of the sneakiest internet marketing ploys out there is domain tasting. This is a practice that will let someone register a domain name for 5 days, and if they decide that they don’t want it anymore, they’ll drop it.

The New Yahoo! Buzz

February 26th, 2008

Yahoo Buzz Logo

If you are looking for something similar to Digg, you might want to take a look at the newly relaunched and redesigned Yahoo! Buzz Beta. Yahoo! Buzz used to be something similar to Google Hot Trends, and they still offer a similar service, but they have made the trend results votable by the users of the site. Much like any other social news site out there. I don’t really think this site will take off, but it is a definite step up from what it used to be.

Google Launches Adsense for Video

February 22nd, 2008

Google Video Advertising Solutions

Since video is probably one of the most popular things to do while on the web, Google has found a way to monetize it. Actually Google has had this program in pilot since last may but after lots of testing, Google’s Adense for video is now in the beta testing phases.

The Associated Press has reported that Google Health will begin the testing phases of the service as of today. It seems that the pilot project will involve 1,500 to 10,000 patients at the Cleveland Clinic who all agreed to transfer their personal health records to Google’s service for easy retrieval. Each of these profiles will contain information about prescriptions, allergies, and medical history and will be protected by a password.

So do you trust Google to hold your medical records? If it was me, I wouldn’t even care actually. I’m not sure what someone could do with my medical records though. I don’t really have any medical problems, I don’t take any prescriptions, and have no allergies. It would be kind of nice to be able to have access to my records whenever I needed them though, say for example if I wanted to change doctors and not have to worry about any kinds of hassles.

Toolbar Page Rank Update

January 10th, 2008

If for some odd reason you are still looking at Toolbar Page Rank, people are reporting that Google has updated it. So check your sites to see. Not that it matters, and I definitely recommend against using it…but there are still people out there who seem to think it’s important.
